Ferrari SuperAmerica
Billed as the world’s fastest convertible with a top speed of 199 mph, the Ferrari Superamerica is by far the coolest variant of the 575M Maranello platform.
It was fitted with an electrochromic glass roof which rotated 180 degrees to cover the trunk flat when open, making Superamerica the first production vehicle to have a convertible top like it.
Due to its innovative design and application, the amount of trunk space in Superamerica stays the same whether the roof is open or closed; a major benefit if you want to keep your golf bag in the boot.
With the use of electrochromic glass, drivers can control how much light gets into the cockpit of their Superamerica. There are five tint settings available, with the glass going from dark to light in less than one minute.
Only 559 Superamericas were ever manufactured, with the unusual production number being attributed to Enzo Ferrari’s philosophy that Ferrari should build one fewer car than the market will bear in order to keep demand high.
Powered by a slightly tuned-up 5.7-liter V12, Superamerica kicks out 540 horsepower, screaming from 0-60 in only 4.1 seconds. It’s available with either a manual gearbox of Ferrari’s famous ‘F1’ paddle-shift system.
One cool option available to all cars on the 575M line is the GTC handling package, which includes carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes, unique 19” wheels, a louder exhaust system and a performance-tuned suspension setup.
The whole package will cost you around $300,000, and that’s when it was new, and the GTC handling pack will set you back another $23,000, so your best bet to drive a Superamerica is in Need for Speed SHIFT’s Ferrari Pack.
