Ferrari 430 Scuderia
Translated from Italian, its name means ‘Stable of horses’, and if there’s one thing Ferrari knows better than any other manufacturer, it’s how to cram a lot of horses into a confined space.
Engineered to compete with track-ready street machines like the Porsche 911 GT3 and Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Scuderia is 220 pounds lighter than the standard F430.
In addition to slimming down, Scuderia also has 508 horsepower, 25 more than the standard F430, allowing it to run a 0-60 time of only 3.1 seconds, better than many much more expensive cars, including the McLaren F1.
Its top speed comes extremely close to 200 mph, showing off Ferrari’s track roots. Scuderia boasts some interesting new technology under the hood, with a rebuilt intake, exhaust system and an ion-sensing knock-detection system that allows for a higher compression ratio.
Scuderia was originally unveiled by Formula One legend Michael Schumacher at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show in Germany and it has some features Schumacher probably wishes he had in his open-wheel racers.
One of those cool features you can only find in a Ferrari is found in Scuderia’s semi-automatic transmission and is called ‘Superfast2’, a piece of software that allows the transmission to shift in 60 milliseconds.
Scuderia is also the name Ferrari uses for its racing division, which has been phenomenally successful in Formula One, taking home 15 drivers’ championships and 16 constructors’ titles. Currently, Ferrari has Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso piloting its F60 car in F-One.
Speaking of Formula One, Scuderia’s F1-Trac system is combined with the E-Diff electronic differential and stability control to make this car handle as beautifully as it accelerates. Take this baby out for a burn around the track in Need for Speed SHIFT’s Ferrari Pack to find out.
